4.FINAL DESIGN
ZHANG HANYUAN_"Beautiful and Endangered"_Task 3
Explanation:
The prototypes of the biological symbols in the picture are the world's top ten endangered marine organisms. Human overfishing and marine debris may weaken their ability to provide key ecosystem services and cause the loss of biodiversity. The theme of this poster is "Beautiful and Endangered". The sea above is getting brighter and brighter, highlighting the cleanliness of the water: while the dark underwater scene below is composed of plastic garbage and a hand, as if to draw some creatures into it. A sharp contrast.
The aim is to raise awareness about the issue of endangered marine life. Many people lack understanding of the living conditions of marine life. Posters with simple and easy-to-understand designs and outstanding visuals can put these issues in the public eye and arouse people's attention and concern for endangered species.
Contrast: Contrast is used in design to highlight the differences between different elements to attract attention and create visual focus. This poster design uses the gradient of color and the size of the circle to highlight the circle from large to small and the color from dark to light to create a visual center.
Symbol: Symbols are used effectively, with the fishing nets and fish representing human intervention and the consequences of overfishing, while the fish represent the marine life affected by these actions.
Words and Images: The words “Beautiful and Endangered” complement the images. The design combines text with two contrasting scenes presented in visuals, reinforcing the message through a combination of text and image. Although the upper and lower parts of the image are in sharp contrast, their message is unified.
REFLECTION
What have I learnt in this module?
In this module, through the study and understanding of design principles, I can better understand traditional design specifications and constraints, and have the ability to challenge and break through these traditions. This will help me discover new innovation points and breakthroughs in future designs, and create more unique and creative works.
What did I enjoy the most?
I like to use Adobe Illustration software to create designs in an illustration style, and keep trying different attempts to see different changes. I love how we have the freedom to create designs without too many conventions so we can explore many ideas and express them in our designs.
What did I not enjoy the most?
Maybe because we are in a short semester this semester, we lack more opportunities for practical operations.
What have I learnt about myself through this module?
By studying the module of design principles, I can have a clearer understanding of my own aesthetic preferences and tendencies. This helps me better express my style and personality later in the design process.
What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
After studying this module, I began to pay more attention to the design related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It also made me better at observing the surrounding environment and looking at things from different perspectives. What hasn’t changed is the way I create designs. I still primarily design using Adobe Illustrator.
What could be improved in this module?
I hope this module can strengthen interdisciplinary integration. As far as I know, design principles involve multiple subject areas, such as psychology, human-computer interaction, etc. The direction of improvement is to strengthen interdisciplinary integration and introduce more knowledge from related disciplines.
