Lectures

week 3

week 4

PART 1:--Infographic poster
Require:
  • Choose 1 infographic poster reference from Internet (Please consult before proceed)
  • Redesign the poster into A4 size. Sketch the idea and process
  • Redesign and simplify the poster based on visual hierarchy & typography
  • Simplify the poster's design based on color, shape & pattern
  • Attach your final poster on E-Portfolio with explanation and reflective writing

Inspiration & Concept (initial ideas and drafts)
I found a poster reference on the Internet (Pinterst) and made a preliminary idea proposal. After showing it to Mr. Fauzi, he said that this one had been refined and suggested that I find a poster that was not well designed and then redesign it into a better version.

Then I found another reference, analyzed it, and made 3 sketches of my ideas.

I made 3 drafts and finally I chose the second one to be the poster.

Digitalization
First, I looked for some visual references for my icons.

Next, I placed the text in the same position as in the draft.

Then I designed the icon.

Poster design is initially completed.

After the poster design was completed.I found that the layout was rather scattered, the placement of each part of the text and icons was relatively independent, and there was a lack of a clear path to guide users in reading, which reduced the efficiency of information transmission and made it difficult to quickly understand the entire customer journey process when reading.

After that, I planned to use a vertical main line in the poster to connect the various stages of the user journey, enhancing the logic of the process and making the reading smoother.

PART 2:--Minimal animated infographic

Require:
  • Animate your infographic poster into one static loop animation page
  • Loop duration in between 15-30 seconds
  • Size: 1080 x 1920 px (Vertical Video) upload to your own Youtube channel
Before I started, I looked at the looping animation reference that Mr. Fauzi sent us.

Animation effect script

  • Cloud:slowly floats left and right
  • Gear rotates
  • Truck icon:makes the wheels rotate while the whole truck jumps forward, creating a bouncing effect
  • Magnifying glass:slightly floats up and down
  • Circle with number 50:preferably animated, either appearing/disappearing suddenly or forming from a bubble into a complete shape
  • Handshake icon:can have a brief shaking motion
  • Bank card: creates an animation where tapping a phone screen makes money appear
Process
I first released the poster layer in Adobe Illustrator to prepare for the animation in AE later.

I then opened the published layers of the Adobe Illustration file in Photoshop and pulled the PS assets into After Effects to start animating.

I realized halfway through that I hadn't "ungrouped" the icons I had drawn, so I couldn't loop them. I then released them back into the layers and re-imported them into AE.

I added all the effects based on the previous script.

Reflection
This assignment gave me a deeper understanding of the “delivery mechanism” of information design, especially the use of visual hierarchy, typography, color, shape, and animation. By analyzing and optimizing the original infographic, I improved readability and visual appeal, while also enhancing my animation skills. I realized that information design is not only about aesthetics, but also about effectively delivering information. Static infographics emphasize layout and hierarchy, while dynamic infographics need to consider time and rhythm, and the combination of the two can improve user experience. This assignment made me pay more attention to “audience-centricity” to ensure that the information is both clear and attractive.
