Task 3 Experience Design Prototype Submission
Task
Instructions
Prototyping will allow students to discover certain limitations that they may not have known about before, and they will have to think creatively about how to overcome these limitations to achieve the ideas they have come up with. The purpose of this assignment is to allow students to test the key functionality of their project. The output does not necessarily have to be a finished project with a visual design. Students will be evaluated on the functionality of their prototype and their ability to think creatively about alternatives to achieve the desired outcome.
I deleted the original idea of 'AR Pokemon battle' and changed it to 'AR Illustrations'. However, during development, I encountered challenges. For example, I couldn’t implement real-time AR health bars and had to rely on simple object collisions. This limitation made the battle function impractical, so I removed it, reducing the number of screens and features.
Progression
I got the 3D resources of Pokemon from the free Free3D, and selected the 3D resources that support obj, fbx and gif formats for download.
When I created image tracking in Vuforia Unity, I tried many times until I got a five-star rating, then I imported it into Unity and started working on it.
Because the higher the score, the higher the success rate of image scanning will be, which can greatly improve the interactive experience of AR scanning.
The first thing I want to point out is that when you scan a card, a 3D model of a Pokémon is displayed.
Then the second point is that when you enter the card library, there will be cards of different Pokemon, four per page. This feature will require users to scan the ground and place the 3D model.
Similar to the camera function in Pokemon go game
In the future I will add some other pages and refine the 3D model that can be dropped on the ground.
Reflection
For this task, I was confused at first and didn't know how to do it. I thought it would be difficult and would take a long time. But it turned out that it was not difficult based on what we learned in class and some tutorials that the teacher posted on mytimes. I mainly used button click logic to make the app run. Although the AR function of my AR project is relatively simple, I am also happy that I have completed its main function. I believe I can improve it when I finish the final project.
