Application Design II / Task 1
- Write a self-reflective blog post comparing the old and new app designs.
- Please refer to the examples in previous students' blogs for guidance.
Last semester, I redesigned the GSC app, focusing on improving the icon system and overall user interface (UI). Preliminary research revealed that some of GSC's icons lacked consistency, semantic clarity, and visual hierarchy, which could easily cause user confusion and reduce navigation efficiency. Furthermore, some interface elements failed to adhere to current design trends and accessibility standards, impacting the user experience for different user groups.
The core goals of this redesign were to establish a unified icon system and optimize key UI components such as the navigation bar, buttons, and layout structure to enhance clarity, consistency, and aesthetics. Compared to the previous version, the new design offers a more youthful and modern feel. The previous interface, which tended to be business-like and featured an excessive number of home buttons, creating visual overload and a poor user experience.
1.Home page
The previous design was too monotonous and lacked visual focus, making it less appealing to users. The updated version features optimized spacing, creating a more dynamic and youthful layout. The illuminated navigation bar also helps users easily identify the current page. Overall, the new design feels more modern, youthful, and user-friendly.

2.Home 3 ——Tickets page
This optimization improves page navigation and efficiency by simplifying redundant information and highlighting the core action of "buy tickets." To strengthen the visual weight of the button, its design was adjusted to a richer color. This move, while enhancing navigation, also weakened the transparent texture of the background elements.

3.Time reminder
The calendar has been updated to reflect a logical, real-world date sequence, and fixed times have been replaced with a prompting text message: "Input time," clearly indicating that this is an input field awaiting user action.

Impact of the Improvement:
1. The interface shifts from "displaying results" to "guiding action." The real-world date layout provides the correct visual paradigm, and the "Input time" placeholder text creates a direct visual focus, clearly directing users to click or enter their desired field.
2. This optimization is not only a visual overhaul; it also eliminates user confusion at the functional level. It accurately communicates the interactivity and configurability of the component, lowering the barrier to understanding and ensuring the correct implementation of the core functionality of "setting a time reminder."
