FINAL REFLECTION
Experience
This class taught me a lot about how to write a research paper on design and how to use design elements and psychology with colour and shape generation. I was very stressed at the beginning of this class because it was a very different approach to design research than last semester, and the amount of writing this semester was much larger and more in-depth, causing me to spend a lot of time reading literature. However, I was pleased that as the writing progressed I gained a deeper understanding of the research topic. The assignment that stood out to me the most this semester was the book design. This was the first time I designed a book entirely in my own words. This was a new and exciting experience for me. It also tested our ability to design a book layout; we needed to design a layout that fit the research topic without being boring.
I would also like to thank Dr Kinki for her help in making my dissertation go so well.
Observations
When writing a dissertation, it is important to prioritise the logical coherence of the argument. It is important not only to consider the logic of the argument, but also to refer to existing literature that supports your point of view. I must admit that I initially experienced a period of uncertainty due to the two-month holiday. I often felt confused and disorganised during the writing process. However, extensive reading and in-depth consideration of the topic helped me realise that more research and reading is vital when feeling lost.
Findings
I really enjoyed the class and I am very happy that my writing skills have improved a lot. I have become a better thinker and I now understand how important it is to reference sources. After completing my thesis, I learned more about design elements and principles, which I found really rewarding. We also paid a lot of attention to how we used design elements and principles. We make sure that they fit perfectly with the theme and always try our best to make sure they are perfect! Designers, listen up! When choosing design elements and principles, please take the time to think carefully and find what works best for you. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to use them – just find what works best for you! I have really enjoyed learning about design in this class. I really hope I can use what I have learnt in my future design studies.
